Françoise Cactus started painting to decorate her flat or to give presents to her friends. Like the Stereo Total- songs her pictures show mostly girls - insolent rebells, nice & sexy dreamers. The colourfull pictures are inspired by pop music, pop art, comics, LP-covers, old trash-movie-posters and chocolate boxes. They are glamourous but not pretentious. You get entertained, sometimes shocked, but the pictures are never to serious or too severe. "Kit Kat Klub", the picture you see on the invitation-postcard for the exposition 2001 in the gallery Katze 5 in Berlin was painted together with Stu Mead, Françoise Cactus' favorite painter. He comes from Minneapolis, is painting since the 80ies and had exhibitions in San Francisco, Paris, Lausanne, Berlin ... His works were printed in an underground-book ("Le dernier cri" from Marseille). His humourfull paintings show his obsessions, his romantic porno-fantasms. |
